There are 2 types of roulette, American and French (aka European roulette) The Roulette wheels in Europe are numbered 1-36, and have a green zero section. The American version of roulette has a single zero and a double zero versus the French version with just a single zero. The French roulette wheel is divided into 37 slots, numbered 1 through 36, plus 0, there is no 00. On both wheels, you may think that there is no rhyme or reason as to how the numbers are arranged, but there is; the numbers are arranged this way so that the odds of landing on high, odd, low or even numbers are evenly distributed. Each roulette player is assigned different color of chip, allowing the dealer differentiate bets and match them to the right players. American wheels have two green sections marked 00. The dealer spins a small ball in the opposite direction of the spinning roulette wheel. If the dreaded 00 is spun, the House keeps all the bets. Even if you play it safe and bet red/black or even/odd, casino roulette is a lot of fun. After the roulette wheel stops the dealer will then mark the winning number on the betting area and the bets are paid accordingly. Wait til the dealer says "place your bets" before putting any roulette chips down for the next round. You should remember to exchange the colored non-value Roulette chips for valued gaming chips prior to leaving a particular Roulette table. When you finish beating the house at roulette, you will have to ask the dealer to "color out" for you, the dealer will then take your chips and give you casino checks which you may then use on other games or cash out at the cashier.
