Roulette was developed around the turn of the century and is one of the most popular gambling games in the world. It is played in virtually every gambling house in North and South America and in Europe, where it is even more popular. The standard American casino roulette wheel contains two green slots: 0 and 00 (many European wheels eliminate the 00, which creates more favorable odds for players) The wheel is divided into 38 (American) or 37 (European) sections, each of which has walls to hold a small ball where it lands after the wheel is spun. The sections are numbered from 1 to 36, (half red and half black, half odd and half even) plus a green section marked 0. The marked area of roulette is called the game layout, and you may place bets on any particular number, any 4 adjacent numbers, a column or a dozen bet. All roulette players place their bets. The dealer spins the roulette wheel in one direction and the small ball in the opposite one. The ball slows and eventually stops in one of the numbered pockets in the Roulette wheel. The roulette ball falls into one of the wheel's numbered compartments which determines the winning number. Roulette does not move at a quick pace, it is for a more relaxed crowd than you are likely to find at the craps table. Once the roulette ball has found its slot, the dealer will call out the winning number and place a marker on that number's spot on the layout. Wait til the dealer says "place your bets" before putting any roulette chips down for the next round. When you finish beating the house at roulette, you will have to ask the dealer to "color out" for you, the dealer will then take your chips and give you casino checks which you may then use on other games or cash out at the cashier.
