There are 2 types of roulette, American and French (aka European roulette) The roulette wheel consists of slots or pockets numbered from 1 to 36, which are either red or black. Roulette uses a special wheel, a betting layout, and chips. A European roulette wheel has the numbers 1-36, plus a slot for zero. If you play black-red, odd/even or high-low, you must place the roulette table minimum for each and every bet. The marked area of roulette is called the game layout, and you may place bets on any particular number, any 4 adjacent numbers, a column or a dozen bet. The dealer spins the roulette wheel in one direction and the small ball in the opposite one. If the dreaded 00 is spun, the House keeps all the bets. Numbers 1-18 are considered the lows numbers, 19-36 are the highs. Losing roulette bets are collected and winning bets are paid. Wait til the dealer says "place your bets" before putting any roulette chips down for the next round. You should remember to exchange the colored non-value Roulette chips for valued gaming chips prior to leaving a particular Roulette table. When you finish beating the house at roulette, you will have to ask the dealer to "color out" for you, the dealer will then take your chips and give you casino checks which you may then use on other games or cash out at the cashier.
